Recess Party provides clarity with recent EP release
Recess Party has gotten the party started, with their most recent release, an EP titled “This Must Be.”
After teasing multiple singles throughout the year and releasing for the first time in two years on December 5, Recess Party has made a dent in the Atlanta music scene.
It’s almost difficult to properly describe the feel of this album. You might get sick of me saying it but it’s true - you just have to hear it for yourself.
The beauty of Recess Party is that their lyrics are so poetic and wonderfully written and the music is extremely well written also. They compliment each other beautifully and I applaud the genius minds of Recess Party.
Who is this band you might ask? Riley, Sam, and Christian all make up the band themselves. With this most recent EP release, they’ve also had some help from Meghan, Dan Millice, Hummingbird Studios, and many more.

“This Must Be” brings the listener into a world unknown to some, possibly very well-known to the lyricist(s). It's a world built upon reminiscing and remembering. Maybe you lost something good and didn't realize what you had until it was gone. Maybe you're nostalgic or longing for past things. Maybe you haven't experienced anything like this yet, but Recess Party brings you to the forefront of those emotions, regardless.
The band described “Outline” as representing “a brief moment of clarity” in a fixed and unmalleable world, in an Instagram post when the single was first released in August. Other notable songs include “Hum” and “Behind,” but honestly, it’s six songs. Listen to them all!!
The EP explores a variety of emotions including nostalgia, hopefulness, bleakness, and passion. However, it’s not inherently sad. In a way, this EP is an emotional release for the writer, the band, the listener, whoever it may be. It’s meant to be a way to confront any of those emotions and find relief.

The unique part of “This Must Be” is that the band allowed their listeners to feel the emotions of the song through the music as well. You don’t really need to understand the whole story because every emotion written through the lyrics, was written through the music as well.
This allowed the harshness and passion of this album to fully saturate the listener. Even moments of hopefulness peak through the words and the music but ultimately, the EP feeds feelings of fleeting and relief in some ways.
As quite a labor of love, Recess Party recommends listening to “This Must Be” in order, to fully understand their intentions. Like I said, you really do have to hear this EP for yourself.
Come back with your own thoughts and interpretations and do be sure to follow Recess Party now - don’t you want to be an OG fan when they make it?
